Images and videos on social media showed debris from a small aircraft near the CITIC Tower in Beijing on Friday, and the city's tallest building displayed visible damage.
The CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun and located in Beijing's Central Business District, was the subject of images that could not be independently verified and were quickly removed from the internet.
Reports said a small airplane crashed into the 108-story tower, and photos showed what appeared to be a hole or broken glass on one side as well as broken windows falling.
Heavy police presence, fire engines and ambulances were seen outside the skyscraper.
The cause of the incident was not immediately clear, authorities had not issued a statement, and two witnesses confirmed the crash.
