Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, 44, of Cary, North Carolina, has been reported missing while vacationing in Grenada; she was last seen at Grand Anse Beach on Wednesday, July 22, the Royal Grenada Police Force said, and Amanda Romano-Harmon said police recovered surveillance video that shows her going to the pier, getting into the water and then floating out of the camera view.
The police missing person poster appealed to fishermen, boat operators and residents along the southern coastline to report any sightings or relevant information and asked anyone with information to contact authorities.
Her husband, Cailen Waddell, wrote on Facebook, “Liz went missing in the afternoon on Wednesday. I am on my way there now to help search. I expect nothing less than Liz’s safe return — so please send your love, light, thoughts, and prayers our way,” and Romano-Harmon said Cailen and other family members have traveled to Grenada to help in the search.
Waddell was vacationing with a friend and the two were staying at an Airbnb in Grand Anse in St. George; Romano-Harmon said Waddell was on a three-week vacation with her close friend Heather, left their Airbnb around noon, went for a swim and did not return after Heather, who had been taking an online course, later found Waddell’s towel on a pier.
Romano-Harmon said Waddell left in a swimsuit with a towel and did not have her phone, ID, other belongings or shoes.
Police have not released any surveillance images related to Waddell's disappearance.
The U.S. State Department said it is aware of reports of a missing American in Grenada and referred questions to local law enforcement; the missing person alert describes Waddell as medium build, 5-foot-5, with short blond hair, and says she is the founder of Art of Movement Physical Therapy and asks anyone with information to contact the South Saint George Police Station.
An urgent search is ramping up to find Waddell.
