Improving Personal Risk Assessments to Prevent Suicide Act

This Act may be cited as the Improving Personal Risk Assessments to Prevent Suicide Act.
Not later than 18 months after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, shall submit to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate, the Committee on Veterans' Affairs of the Senate, the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives, and the Committee on Veterans' Affairs of the House of Representatives and publish on a publicly available website a report, and provide to such committees a briefing, on how experiencing military sexual trauma or intimate partner violence affects the risk of suicidal ideation and suicide for members of the Armed Forces and veterans.
Not later than one year after the publication of the report required by subsection (a), the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall incorporate findings on military sexual trauma and intimate partner violence, including the results of the report, as risk factors for suicide and suicidal ideation into the Department of Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guidelines for Assessment and Management of Patients at Risk for Suicide, or similar successor guidelines.
