PETSAFE Act

This Act may be cited as the Providing Essential Temporary Shelter Assistance for Emergencies Act or the PETSAFE Act.
Section 662 of the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2006 (6 U.S.C. 762) is amended—
in subsection (c)—
by striking 50 percent. and inserting “—
50 percent; or
with respect to an activity described in subsection (f), 90 percent.
by redesignating subsection (f) as subsection (g); and
by inserting after subsection (e) the following:
A State or local or tribal government may use amounts from a grant under this section to perform emergency preparedness activities that support companion animals, including to purchase or fund—
collapsible crates;
companion animal mobile equipment trailers;
pet supplies;
veterinary medical and animal health care supplies;
emergency sheltering equipment and supplies;
emergency generators;
disaster response software;
emergency management and response training;
animal response team development; and
field rescue equipment and supplies.
Section 613 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 5196b) is amended—
in subsection (g)—
by striking the needs of individuals with and inserting “the needs of—
individuals with
in paragraph (1), as so designated, by striking the period at the end and inserting ; and; and
by adding at the end the following:
animal shelters that provide housing and care for homeless, lost, or unwanted companion animals prior to, during, and following a major disaster or emergency.
by redesignating the second subsection designated as subsection (h) as subsection (i).
